Student Field Day:  Climbing fundamentals

Free to qualified students.

This introduction to tree climbing workshop is designed for students to gain practical training in sage tree climbing. Topics include safety, team work, and communication, belays and tie-in, climbing great and tools, lines, knots, hitches, and splicing, work positioning and fall protection, and work-oriented climbing. The workshop is taught by certified tree climbers and professional arborists from the North American Training Solutions and the Southern Chapter ISA.

The Workshop takes place from 8:30 am to 11:30 am on Sunday March 25th. Saturday March 24th includes an optional afternoon pre-workshop tour of the Southern Chapter ISA Tree Climbing Championship. Participating students will receive free membership to the Southern Chapter International Society of Arboriculture.

Participants must be at least 18 years old to attend.   Participant must complete a liability waiver.

This workshop addresses biological, economic, and social factors impacting the effectiveness and sustainability of community tree programs. Through interactive exercises, the program engages participants to learn about tools and information they can use to achieve their tree program goals. These tools include tree inventory systems and ordinances, as well as other strategies that are not as common, but which can increase the professional’s sphere of influence. Ultimately, the workshop helps professionals work with community partners to create resilience-focused forest management strategies. Information and examples provided in this program are based on the presenters’ considerable experience working in community forestry and arboriculture across the United States.

The What, How, and Why of ROW Stewardship

This workshop will develop and present the evolving relationship among selective use of herbicides, IVM, sustainable IVM and ROW Stewardship, and beyond, with the hope of aiding dialog, promoting the exchange of ideas, and fostering professional growth. Performance standards will be illuminated as developed by the ROW Stewardship Council. Participants will learn what is expected of ROW Stewards, and where the common shortfalls currently exist in the industry performance.

This course is designed to educate tree climbers and/or aerial lift operators in the most likely scenarios where they may have to respond to an emergency. Emphasis is on emergency preparedness, readiness, and accident prevention. The importance of self-rescue strategies and understanding the “working alone” definition reinforces the importance of emergency readiness. This course involves rescue demonstrations and will meet the required aerial rescue education of the International Society of Arboriculture’s Certified Tree Worker program. Registration includes a Trade Show only badge for Sunday evening. Completed liability waiver is required.

SRT Fundamentals WORKSHOP

Practice your Single Rope Technique (SRT) under the guidance and instruction of North American Training Solutions. Proper protective equipment and completed liability waiver are required. It is recommended that participant brings own saddle. Registration includes a Trade Show only badge for Monday. Maximum class size is 25. Completed liability waiver is required.

ISA TREE risk assessment qualification (TRAQ)

Wednesday-Friday, March 28-30, 2018 | Sheraton Memphis Downtown
